YSL Edition Soir

I caught a glimpse into the world of YSL the other night at the ‘Botanica’ themed dinner hosted by the French Chamber of Commerce. The highlight of the dinner (apart from the funny and talented emcee, Margaret Kutt) was no doubt the fashion show featuring the beautifully tailored capsule collection of Edition Soir by YSL. The elegant collection also offers a semi haute couture experience, you have a choice of colours, fabrics and embroideries so you end up with a gown that’s yours and yours alone. The entire process takes three months to complete so there’s still time for the many end of the year weddings and events!

Edition Soir is available at the Yves Saint Laurent boutique at Alexandra House in Central.

The Phoenix Jakarta

From the ashes of itself rises a mythical bird, the Phoenix. The story of the Phoenix is symbolic to the renewal of a beautiful three story building in the heart of Jakarta’s business and entertainment district. We had a big hand in re-designing and consulting on the interiors and overall look…extreme makeover style (with lots of trips to Jakarta thrown in!) So, if you are ever in Jakarta or you are IN Jakarta, go check out The Phoenix, a contemporary place to chill out (in the garden) and a great place to celebrate, the venue holds up to 300 for cocktail reception or a buffet dinner.

Email info@phoenixjakarta.com for more details and a banqueting kit!

Our most popular Elum Designs Invitations!

Hong Kong couples seem to love the U.S based, Elum Designs line of invitations and wedding stationery. They really appreciate the thick 100% cotton rag paper and the beautiful designs, typesetting and letterpressing (plus the fact that they can print in Chinese!) So I thought it’d be fun to share some of the most popular designs that Hong Kong brides have chosen these past few months.

Call us at +852 2869 4222 for more information. By appointment only (to better serve you!)

Vintage Dom Perignon Rosé Gold

A methuselah (equivalent to 8 standard sized bottles) of the highly prized 1996 Dom Perignon Rosé Gold, was recently sold for £35,000 of HK$ 420,000 ( well..with the exchange rate now its more like $390,000) at the bar of of a top London hotel after a gala movie screening. It broke the record for the most expensive bottle of wine sold at a British bar. The buyer, thought to be a Russian billionaire, left a £10,625 tip in addition to the £4,375 service charge! Wow.

American Idol

The wise and savvy buyers at net-a-porter.com have just brought in J.Crew, one of our favourite American high street brands. They have hand-picked the key items from the collection, all shiny new and ready to be bought! Although J. Crew does a great line of affordable bridesmaids dresses and even wedding gowns, its not on the net-a-porter site, you’ll have to go on jcrew.com and ask a friend in the U.S to forward it to you or visit their brand new dedicated wedding boutique on Madison Avenue in New York City. Happy Shopping!

10 ways to trim your budget

Its the happy memories of your wedding day that you want to hold onto forever, not the bills! No matter what your budget is, here are ten simple ways from The Wedding Company to trim your budget!

1. Before you get fixated on a ‘look’ for your floral decoration, research what type of  flowers are in season! There are vast price differences even between types of roses.

2. Restrict your guest list to your close friends and family. Be firm! If you’re on a tight budget, try not to invite the whole office or your long-lost high school pals.

3. Buy your dress at a sample sale, on eBay or even rent one!

4. In addition to serving water and juice, restrict your alcoholic beverages to beer and wine, not champagne. Try to negotiate some free corkage from your venue too!

5. DIY – make your own invitations. Visit www.papersource.com for inspiration.

6. Consider a lunch or afternoon tea reception and serve finger sandwiches, light canapés, lemonade, gourmet coffee and tea.

7. Do your own makeup. Practice beforehand and take some photographs of yourself.

8. Ask nicely! Everyone appreciates a polite bride.Who knows, the vendor may like you and give you a break!

9. Consider using an iPod with different playlists for each part of the evening instead of hiring a band. Assign a friend to be the ‘DJ’.

10. Pick a weekday wedding instead of a Saturday or Sunday, vendors may be more willing to negotiate. Often, venues will have a lower minimum charge too.

Whistler

Just spent some time in Whistler, Canada, home of the 2010 Winter Olympic games. Its such a beautiful place, I didn’t want to leave! With stunning lakes, abundant foliage and majestic mountains, I would imagine that its a great place to get married, definitely very different from the traditional Hong Kong style weddings! Would be amazing for a honeymoon too!

Lisa B Weddings

Choosing a wedding photographer can be hard. You want someone to capture the essence of the wedding, allowing you to shine. Someone that’s discreet yet personable. Someone that faithfully captures those precious moments and put them in a beautiful album — after all,  that’s all that’s left when the wedding day is over.

Meet Lisa. We have worked with Lisa B countless times since meeting her on 2003 and love her work as a wedding photographer. She definitely has talent, but apart from that, she is genuine, highly experienced, easy to get along with and will go to great (dare we say..any) lengths to capture that perfect shot. Visit her website at www.lisabweddings.com to see her complete portfolio.

Whether its pre-wedding shots in Europe (she’s based in the UK half the time) or wedding day stills in Hong Kong & Asia, we think she’s more than great. Here are some of our favourite images from her website.

They are accepting appointments from April 24th onwards, what are you waiting for?

Hitched! is located at Room 1501, 72 Bonham Strand East, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. By appointment only 2815 8330.

Rupert Sanderson Bridal Collection

Stopped by the opening of the Rupert Sanderson shop last week, their first shop outside of London (and they chose Hong Kong!). Heaven for the shoe-obsessed. Anyway, they have had a bridal collection to order since Sept 2009 so if you are struggling to find the right shoes to go with your perfect dress, you should stop by their gem of a shop.  They are located on On Lan Street in Central.

Mischa Bridal Clutches

Inspired by her travels to Japan, Mischa Designs’ creator, Michelle Lai, reconstructs brocade obi belts into elegant handbags and accessories. We love it!

Her newest collection was created with brides-to-be in mind, re-using intricately designed obi belts in white, silver, and hints of pink fashioned into her signature dumpling clutch. These ‘dumplings’ are roomy and look great either half-filled or stuffed. A great accessory either pre- or post wedding, and useful for keeping some must-have items close at hand on your wedding day – lipstick, mints, mobile phone and more!

Michelle created her first obi clutch because she had difficulty in finding a clutch to match a dress for a friend’s wedding. For all you thoughtful brides-to-be, you can also gift your bridal party with a luxurious obi clutch to say thank you for their love and support on your wedding day.

Mischa Designs is based in Hong Kong, and available in Singapore, New York, Jeddah, and Paris. Visit her website Mischa Designs on how to order!

Bali Weddings

Many couples-to-be dream of an intimate beach or island wedding with close friends and family. We can now make that a reality.  It is with great pleasure that we introduce to you Michelle Han, The Wedding Company’s Event Producer in Bali.

Michelle was the first person to get married in the garden of the famed Oriental Hotel in Bangkok and sped off from the ceremony up the Chao Phraya River in a flower strewn water taxi. Her life was never going to be conventional. Her career as a television producer and international news broadcaster ensured a discipline for attention to detail, working to budget and coordinating live events. Michelle lives between Hong Kong, Bangkok and Bali where she has organized weddings, birthdays and corporate events.

After 18 years of owning a home in Bali, Michelle has the insider’s knowledge of top venues, visually-stunning locations & industry-leading vendors that can turn an event into a unique experience. From barefoot on the beach, hilltop hotel grandeur to exchanging vows in a rice paddy, Michelle can realize your Bali wedding dreams.

Auspicious days to get married in 2010

In Hong Kong, finding an auspicious date to get married is a ‘must’ if you or your family are at all traditional! Finding a good date requires the services of a fung shui master who takes into account the couple’s birth dates and times and also refers to the chinese almanac. Usually, even numbered months and dates are preferred and lunar month of March (Ching Ming Festival), lunar month of July (Ghost month) & the lunar month of September (Chung Yeung Festival) are generally not considered ‘lucky’ dates for weddings.

Even though 2010 isn’t the best year to get married (according to the Chinese calendar, 2011 is better!), here are some of the best dates to get married this year!

Umi (you say it like this “oo-mee”)

We are thrilled to be the exclusive retailer in Hong Kong for Umi, the brand new little sister to Elum Design’s couture invitation line. Umi is an affordable letterpress solution for those who don’t want to compromise on design or materials.

Of course, with these affordably priced packages do come some limitations. All artwork and layout has to remain the same as shown on the samples but we think you will be so smitten with the designs, you won’t want to change a thing! You still have every opportunity to put your own stamp on it by customizing ink colours, paper and envelopes. There is also a flat printed option at a fraction of the price. Their highly affordable flat printed packages are the perfect solution for the client who loves the design but won’t budge for letterpress. More details on www.elumdesigns.com!
